AikidoAikido: Aikido is a modern martial art that developed from Japanese jujutsu. It is comprised of defensive techniques designed to redirect the energy of an attack. The correct execution of Aikido and jujutsu techniques does not require strength or speed, but relies on distance, timing, leverage, and most importantly, the flexibility to adapt to each situation while blending with and redirecting an attacker's energy. Yoseikan Aikido differs from most modern Aikido in that it retains the martial effectiveness of the pre-war Aikijujutsu that Ueshiba taught enhanced with elements of Judo, Karate, and Sutemi (sacrifice throws) a hallmark of the Yoseikan System. Classes are open to students age 16 and up.
